Zhangjiagang adopts stricter measures for inbound travelers

Zhangjiagang in East China’s Jiangsu province announced that it would be taking stricter novel coronavirus prevention measures for inbound travelers beginning on March 24, as the number of imported cases of the virus on the Chinese mainland has been on the rise.

The city will redirect all travelers headed for Zhangjiagang first to a work station at the Huaqiao International Expo Center in Kunshan. All travelers who entered China through any port less than 14 days ago are required to report their travel history and health conditions to their communities and companies before arriving in the city and register at their communities and companies in person upon arrival.

The announcement also requires local employers and residential communities to screen new arrivals and register their information in detail.

All inbound travelers will also be required to undergo a 14-day concentrated medical observation period and take a nucleic acid test for the coronavirus.

They are also required to acquire their “Suchengma”, a health condition QR code designed to reflect the locals’ health condition and travel history.

Those who deliberately conceal their travel history and health conditions, refuse to undergo medical observation, or violate local regulations and rules regarding epidemic control will be investigated for criminal responsibility in accordance with the law.

In the announcement, the local government called for extreme caution and solidarity from departments at all levels, as well as all citizens, in a bid to prevent imported cases of COVID-19.
