Beijing reported two new imported cases infected with the COVID-19 on Sunday, as of 12 am, increasing the number of imported cases in the capital to 99, according to Beijing Municipal Health Commission.

Beijing has not recorded any local confirmed case for 15 consecutive days, as of Saturday, Gao Xiaojun, spokesman for the commission, said on a news conference on Sunday afternoon.

“The imported cases are the current focus of the city’s prevention and control efforts, as the fast spread of the virus in other countries has brought increasing risk of importing patients to our country,” Gao said.

As of Saturday, there were a total of 97 imported cases, 84 percent of whom were from the United Kingdom, Spanish, Italy and the United States, Gao said. Five of the 97 cases are foreign nationalities and the rest are Chinese.

Among them, 51 are overseas students, accounting for 52.6 percent. And 89.7 percent of the imported cases are aged between 18 and 59. Four of them are severe cases while the rest are patients with common or slight conditions, Gao added.
