Since the start of a spike in the number of imported coronavirus cases, Jiangsu province had transferred more than 3,000 inbound travelers from abroad to their destinations from many domestic airports as of Tuesday evening.

The transfers are part of the province's measures to contain the coronavirus outbreak, according to its foreign affairs office on Thursday.

The province dispatched 199 medical workers to metropolises, including Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing, to help manage the travelers from abroad, said Zhou Minghao, deputy director of the provincial health commission.

Fei Gaoyun, director of the provincial foreign affairs office, said Jiangsu is working with neighboring Zhejiang and Anhui provinces to contain imported cases of coronavirus infection.

The province is also working with several other provinces to share information about travelers from abroad, he said.

Each traveler will be given a notice about the 14-day quarantine policy and will be provided with snacks and drinks at airports.

As of Wednesday, Jiangsu had not reported a new confirmed case for 29 consecutive days, although 189 imported cases of coronavirus infections had been reported in China, according to the National Health Commission on Thursday.
