Four villagers raced two of their vans day and night from Kaifeng, a city in Central China's Henan province, to Wuhan to help ease a food shortage at the local hospital. They were later hailed by people on the internet.

As soon as they heard on TV Saturday afternoon that food is badly needed in Wuhan, center of the epidemic, Li Hesheng, Li Shuangxi, Li Jun and Song Zhijiang in Beijiao town decided to do their part and deliver something to Wuhan Union Hospital themselves.

Equipped with masks, gloves and disinfectant, they hit the road on Sunday with two vans, some instant noodles and bottled water.

In order to deliver the donation to the hospital as soon as possible, they hardly ate or drank, and did not stop to rest during the journey.

The four finally arrived in Wuhan on Monday morning and returned as soon as the donation was completed.

Although there was no water or food on the way back, they all felt excited and fulfilled.

A local policeman was moved by their story and took them to fill up their fuel tank when they were running on empty on the way back home.

It was nearly midnight that when they returned to Kaifeng. However, they went directly to a designed hotel for quarantine, instead of going home.

"We could not sleep or eat on this journey, but as long as our donation can help a little bit,we feel proud and worthy" Li Jun said.
