More than 30 university volunteers from the Jilin International Studies University, in the northeastern province of Jilin, are currently working on the front line of the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus, according to university officials.

The officials said the volunteers responded to a call of the Communist Youth League of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee.

Following training and after taking protective measures, the volunteers went out to Jilin, Tonghua, Baishan, Siping, Songyuan, Gongzhuling, and elsewhere in Jilin province.

There, they are providing service, including helping maintain order, measuring body temperatures of people in public places, transporting and giving out materials, offering psychological counseling and more.

One volunteer is Ma Zhenning, a senior student at Jilin International Studies University who has been responsible for psychological counseling training and related services since Jan 27. Ma said that it is what young people should do, when the country needs them.

Another volunteer is Du Chunsen, a freshman from the university who has been responsible for measuring body temperature of people at the Changchun-Jilin highway toll station since Jan 29. He said with the joint effort of all the people, China could certainly defeat the virus.

Elsewhere, Li Siyuan is a junior student from the university, who offers psychological counseling online.

“Although I’m not a professional person who can fight at the forefront line as a medical worker, I hope I can do my best to contribute to the fight against the novel coronavirus”, she said.
