New medical team to go to Benin for aid work

A medical team consisting of 25 doctors from Ningxia Hui autonomous region will embark on a journey to Benin in West Africa to provide medical aid to the country.

Since 1978, Ningxia has sent 24 groups of medical aid teams, comprising a total of 547 medical staff, to Benin, helping treat about 3 million patients, according to Zhang Shenglin, head of the international cooperation and exchange office with the Health Commission of Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Among the staff, 33 of them were awarded the medal of honor by the Benin's government, Zhang said.

The new team will carry out one year of aid work at three hospitals or medical centers in Benin. They are from local hospitals in Ningxia, including the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University.
