Shanghai Children’s Medical Center
Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, together with the Beijing Children’s Medical Center, form the National Children’s Medical Center and is devoted to serving the health and wellbeing of all of China’s children.
Shanghai Children’s Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare center providing 358 beds, and integrating pediatrics, education, research and disease prevention. The center is co-operated by Project HOPE and Shanghai Jiaotong University of Medicine, and was established and managed by Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, and affiliate of Shanghai Jiaotong University of Medicine.
The center spans an area of 100 mu (66,667 square meters) at a total investment exceeding 600 million yuan ($88.29 million).
The Shanghai Children’s Medical Center provides treatment of severe disease in children around China, provides treatment guidelines and regulations, organizes training for medical professionals, international clinics and scientific research corporations, and applies scientific research to clinic practice.
The center has founded several institutes, including the Key Laboratory for Children’s Hematological Tumors and the Shanghai Jiaotong University of Medicine Transfer Research Institute. Subjects of Children’s Cardiovascular and Children’s Hematological Tumors were listed among “Shanghai transfer medical key sci-tech infrastructure development” projects.
During the center’s development, it has cooperated with the American National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), America Children's National Medical Center and Japanese National Children’s Health and Human Development. The center also jointly built the Chinese, American and Japanese Children’s Medical Center Annual Academic Exchange System.
Additionally, the center has built several foreign-cooperated multi-center clinical research systems, including the Chinese Children’s Tumor (Leukemia) Clinical Multi-center Research Group and the China Cardiac Birth Defects Diagnosis and Treatment Group.
