Fujian: 70 years on

Starting this May, the State Council Information Office has held news conferences for each province, autonomous region and municipality to give briefings about their social and economic development since the founding of New China 70 years ago.

During the Fujian session on July 19 in Beijing, Yu Weiguo, secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and governor Tang Dengjie, detailed the province's achievements.

Rapid development in economy

Fujian's regional GDP in 2018 reached 3.58 trillion yuan ($511.58 billion), increasing over 2,800 times than the amount during the early days of the founding of New China. General financial revenue exceeded 500 billion yuan, up more than 6,300 times than what it was during the early days of the founding of New China.

Per capita GDP of Fujian province in 2018 surpassed 91,000 yuan, ranking the sixth in China.

More convenience in transport

All cities (those having municipal districts) in Fujian province were connected by high-speed trains by the end of 2018. The cargo handling capacity of ports in Fujian has reached 558 million tons. Xiamen Air has opened flights to many countries in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.

A pioneer for reform and opening-up

The province’s total import and export volume in 2018 amounted to $190 billion. About 150 World Top 500 companies have invested in Fujian and the province has clustered more than 58,000 foreign-funded companies.

Becoming an affluent province

The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in 2018 reached 42,121 yuan and 17,821 yuan, ranking seventh and fifth in China. The income growth rate for rural residents has surpassed that of urban residents.
