The People's Liberation Army Air Force will host a large open-house activity starting Thursday in Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province, to mark the 70th anniversary of its founding.

Colonel Zhang Shouhai, an officer at the PLA Air Force's Staff Department, told reporters at a news conference on Sunday morning at the Air Force's Headquarters in Beijing that the five-day event is intended to show the Air Force's achievements over the past 70 years of building, development and transformation and also to display its efforts to gain strong combat capability and strategic prowess.

The activity will include flight performance of 35 aircraft from 10 types in active service with the Air Force, such as the J-20 stealth fighter jet, H-6K long-range bomber and Y-20 strategic transport plane.

All of the Air Force's aerobatic and parachute stunt teams – August 1, Red Eagle, Sky Wing as well as Blue Eagle – will take part and perform during the event, he said, adding that war heroes, decorated pilots and other distinguished figures in the Air Force will also take part in the event.

Colonel Huang Minglin from the Air Force's Equipment Department said at the news conference that 71 pieces in 46 types of ground weapons and equipment will be shown to the public.

This will be the seventh open house held by the Air Force since 2011. More than 1.2 million members from the public had visited the previous six events, Zhang said.
