Hainan tourism revenue hits $1 b during National Day holiday

Over 4 million tourists from home and abroad travelled to Hainan province during the seven-day National Day holiday, contributing 7.7 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) to the local economy, a year-on-year increase of 11.5 percent.

The number of overnight tourists stood at 1.72 million, while that of single-day travelers exceeded 2.28 million.

During the holiday, the province's inbound passengers reached 594,800 and the number of outbound passengers was 596,400.

More than 224,000 visitors went to the four duty-free malls in Haikou, Sanya, and Boao, up by 38.9 percent year-on-year. The total sales revenue of those malls reached over 385 million yuan, climbing by 57.4 percent.
