Beijing Daxing International Airport saw off its first flight after a China Southern Airlines' A380 left the airport at 4:22 pm on Wednesday headed for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
The flight signaled the beginning of operations at the facility after five years of construction, according to the airport authority.
Beijing Nanyuan Airport, the oldest airport in China, will cease servicing civil aircraft on September 30 and all the civil aviation operations will move to Beijing Daxing International Airport. With the airport put in use, China United Airlines, the first to fully move its services into the new airport, will begin operations with 78 flights and handle over 10,000 passenger trips on September 26.
The flight destination from Nanyang Airport to Beijing Nanyuan Airport has now been changed to the new airport. In addition, other flights from Nanyang to Beijing Capital Airport are still in operation.
The direct flights from Nanyang to Beijing (Nanyuan Airport) were officially opened on December 1, 2010, according to a Nanyang Airport staff. Over the years, the flight has brought great convenience for citizens wishing to travel.
