Zhuhai tourist numbers increase during Moon Festival

More than 961,600 tourists celebrate the Sept 13-15 Mid-Autumn Festival in Zhuhai, year-on-year growth of 1.1 percent. The Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau reports that they spent 673 million yuan ($95 million), up 3.2 percent.

Some 241,000 stayed overnight, a 1.3 percent rise compared with last year.

A mobile big-data platform shows that intercity visitors led the total number of holidaymakers with nearly 60 percent while local residents accounted for 20.24 percent. Meanwhile, tourists from beyond Guangdong and the Chinese mainland comprised 8.74 percent and 13.04 percent respectively.

Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort, Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Town, Lionsgate Entertainment World, Hengqin National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, and other theme parks delighted visitors with various eye-opening and immersive entertainment facilities.

Also popular with both residents and visitors were the Jinwan Intangible Cultural Heritage Techniques Demonstration Contest, 2nd Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in Jinwan, 1st Beach Tent Cultural Festival in Xiangzhou, and Jishan Cow Song Mid-Autumn Festival Antiphonal Singing Fair in Tangjiawan.

In addition, Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone, which has 105 islets, saw the number of holidaymakers soar to 12,627 -- a year-on-year increase of 35.2 percent.

Mid-Autumn Festival is typically marked by family reunions, enjoying sights of the full moon, and savoring mooncakes, among other traditions.
