Henan Province Chinese Medicine Research Institute

Set up in 1959, Henan Province Chinese Medicine Research Institute is a 3A-grade scientific research and medical institution offering services related to scientific research, medical treatment and teaching, along with the development and production of TCM.

Located in Zhengzhou in Henan province, the institute occupies a floor space of 10.4 hectares. The 3A-grade Henan Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, which was founded in 1993, is directly affiliated to the institute and contains 1,000 inpatient beds.

The research institute also has 17 clinical research institute, and two companies conducting TCM research and production. There are more than 700 staff members, of whom 500 are professionals, 100 have senior professional titles, 12 are experts who enjoy the government special allowance awarded by the State Council, and eight are nationally renowned TCM doctors.

In recent years, the institute has attached great importance to integrating scientific research with clinical study, aiming to promote innovative development. It has created a coordinated development mechanism, highlighting a combination of TCM production, teaching and scientific research.

The institute has set up one key national discipline commissioned by the State Administration of TCM, two national key clinical specialties of TCM and three national key specialties of the State Administration of TCM. There are also three key specialties of TCM Administration of Henan Province and three academician workstations.

In the past five years, the institute has undertaken more than 300 scientific research projects, including some 60 major national scientific projects related to the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) and the National Natural Science Foundation projects. Over 40 new TCM products were developed, of which five were awarded national honors.
