Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group, believed to be the cradle of China's copper industry, was reconstructed in December 1949 and put into production in 1952. It was among the 156 key programs during the First Five-Year Plan (1953-1957) and listed in Hong Kong in November 1996.

The group is located in Anhui's Tongling city, China's Ancient Copper City, and the country's earliest copper industrial base. Over 70 years, the group has developed into a large enterprise centered around the non-ferrous metal industry and financial trade.

In recent years, it has attached great importance to high-quality development and promoted its reform and innovation, transformation and upgrading, seen its cathode copper capacity increasing significantly.

In 2009, it was on the list of national innovative enterprises and in 2012 was dubbed a national technological innovation demonstration enterprise. Its sales revenue hit 177.58 billion yuan ($24.81 billion) in 2018, ranking 116th place in the 2018 Top China 500 enterprises. Fortune unveiled the 2019 Global 500 list on July 22 and Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group ranked 461st, with its operation revenue reaching $26.85 billion for the first time in history.
