Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group, believed to be the cradle of China's copper industry, was reconstructed in December 1949 and put into production in 1952. It was among the 156 key programs during the First Five-Year Plan (1953-1957) and listed in Hong Kong in November 1996.

Its sales revenue hit 177.58 billion yuan ($24.81 billion) in 2018, ranking 116th place in the 2018 Top China 500 enterprises.
