Xi'an listed as nation's top 5 low-carbon city

Over the past year, the per capita reduced carbon emissions of Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province ranked fifth in China, according to a report on the low-carbon lifestyle released by the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Aug 27.

The report says that Xi'an ranks in the top 10 respectively in the number of people who have received planting qualification certificates and those who have co-planted trees on Ant Forest, an app to help people plant their own trees in dry places according to their carbon emission amount as determined by mobile phones.

To date, more than 5.2 million Xi'an residents have planted 13.5 million trees in the real world through the app.

In recent years, Xi'an has taken several measures to improve people's awareness on carbon emissions through the internet, with low-carbon lifestyle on mobile phones covering various aspects of people's daily life.

Xi'an became the second city in China to realize unattended parking in Nov 2017, after Shenzhen in Guangdong province. So far, self-service payment has covered 3,284 public parking spots in the city.

At present, mobile payment has become popular in Xi'an, providing much convenience for people in shopping, transportation, and medical treatment. The city has made it a goal that it will continuously construct a green, ecological and livable city through the green development model.
