Henan Polytechnic University

Henan Polytechnic University (HPU), founded in 1909, originated from Jiaozuo Railways and Mines School, which was China's first mining institution of higher learning. In 2014, it was given its current name and was jointly built by the central government and Henan provincial government.

Covering floor space of 273 hectares, the university has three campuses in Jiaozuo: the south, north and west campuses. The total value of its fixed assets is 2.22 billion yuan ($313.4 million), of which 748 million yuan accounts for teaching and research equipment. It has three libraries,
with a collection of 3.3 million books, including 2.15 million paper books.

HPU has 22 teaching departments, two colleges for international students and adult education, which offer students 78 undergraduate degree programs, covering nine disciplines: science, engineering, management, economics, law, literature, education, art and medicine.

The university has more than 40,000 full-time students and 3,114 faculty members, including 13 academicians of the two national academies, three scholars listed in the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, 32 experts enjoying special allowances awarded by the State Council, and more than 200 talents with national and provincial honors.

Focusing on the development of key discipline construction, HPU has five post-doctoral research stations, six doctoral degrees in first-tier disciplines, and 21 master's degrees in first-tier disciplines, and its engineering science has entered the top 1 percent of the world's academic institutions, according to data released by global ranking system Essential Science Indicators.

Since the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), the university has undertaken more than 650 national scientific research projects, including 13 national key projects, over 500 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 38 National Social Science Fund projects. It has won 404 science and technology achievement awards at provincial and ministerial level. More than 2,000 essays by HPU staff members were included in the Science Citation Index (SCI).

At the same time, it has attached great importance to international communication and cooperation, establishing in-depth partnerships with 76 universities and scientific institutions in over 30 countries and regions.
