Located in Wuhu, East China's Anhui province, Anhui Normal University was jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and Anhui provincial government, and is a key provincial comprehensive university with an outstanding faculty and competitive teaching strength.
Originating from the Provincial Anhui University founded in Anqing in 1928, it was moved to Wuhu in 1949 and given its current name in 1972, with its name inscribed by Guo Moruo (1892-1978), one of the greatest writers and poets in China's modern history.
Covering more than 195 hectares, the university has 18 colleges offering students all-round disciplines including literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, science, engineering, agronomy and art. Its library, named a "national key protection unit of ancient books", has a collection of over 2.9 million paper books and more than 700 kinds of rare ancient books.
Focusing on discipline construction, the university now has 88 undergraduate degree programs, eight doctoral degrees in first-tier disciplines, 30 master's degrees in first-tier disciplines, and five postdoctoral research stations.
It has more than 2,350 faculty members, including 1,560 full-time teachers, three scholars who are listed in the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, two recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 24 provincial outstanding teachers, as well as many other outstanding talents awarded national or provincial titles. Among the 47,000 students are 22,600 undergraduates, and 160 international students.
As one of the first universities in China to enroll international students, it has trained more than 5,000 overseas students from some 30 countries and regions, and established long-term academic exchanges and cooperation with a wide range of universities and research institutions across the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and South Korea. It has also set up Confucius Institutes and Classrooms in Australia and Ukraine.
