Set up in 1959, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is located in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi province. Supported by the State Administration of TCM and Jiangxi provincial government, it is qualified to grant doctor's degrees.
The university, covering 154 hectares, has 15 secondary teaching colleges (departments), three affiliated hospitals, and nine indirectly affiliated hospitals. Its library has a collection of more than 1.4 million books.
The university has 23,000 full-time students, and offers 27 undergraduate degree programs, covering medicine, science, engineering, literature, economics, management and art. It has two first-tier disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, and six first-tier disciplines to confer master's degrees. Its traditional Chinese medical science and traditional Chinese pharmacology were listed as Jiangxi first-class disciplines. The university now has 12 national key disciplines of the State Administration of TCM, and seven national key clinical specialties (special diseases).
Among the outstanding faculty members, there are one national TCM master, one distinguished professor on the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, eight Nationally Distinguished Teachers, and 85 experts who enjoy special allowances awarded by the State Council and the Jiangxi provincial government.
In the university there are three national scientific research platforms, 31 platforms at provincial and ministerial level, and one postdoctoral research station. In the past five years, it has conducted nearly 600 projects at or above provincial and ministerial level, among which 27 won awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level.
Featuring a combination of production, teaching and research, the university set up a national high-tech enterprise: Jiangxi Jiangzhong Group, which has developed more than 70 TCM and related products.
As one of the first universities enrolling international students in China, Jiangxi University of TCM has established cooperative relationships with colleges and universities from more than 20 countries and regions. It has set up a Confucius Institute in South Korea, many TCM centers in Portugal, Sweden and Tunisia, as well as a Global Institute of TCM with Australia.
