Jiangxi Agricultural University is a high-level university featuring agronomy and biotechnology. Founded in 1905 as Jiangxi Industrial School, it was renamed Nanchang University in 1949, and was given its current name in 1980.
Located in Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, the university occupies 1,067 hectares. Jointly supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Jiangxi provincial government and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, it was one of the first universities in Jiangxi to conduct postgraduate education.
The university now has 17 colleges and departments, offering 58 undergraduate degree programs, which cover nine disciplines: agronomy, science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education and art. It has six doctoral degrees in first-tier disciplines, 20 master's degrees in first-tier disciplines, two postdoctoral research stations, and one postdoctoral work station.
In the university there are more than 1,700 faculty members, 80 percent of whom have doctoral or master's degrees. Among them are five scholars who are listed in the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, as well as many other outstanding talents awarded national or provincial titles.
Jiangxi Agricultural University was one of Jiangxi's earliest universities to admit international students, and has maintained partnerships with many universities and research institutions across the world, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Russia and Canada.
