Yanshan University (YSU), inherited its academic legacy from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) which was founded in 1920. It was designated as a national key institution of higher learning in 1978, and was renamed Yanshan University in 1997.
The university in Hebei province covers 267 hectares with a building area of 1.06 million square meters. There are 38,000 students on the campus, with 3,200 faculty members, including 2,200 full-time teachers, 481 professors (including 234 doctoral supervisors) and 641 associate professors, and one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
There are 64 undergraduate majors at the university, forming a discipline pattern with engineering as the main field with integrated disciplines: literature, science, economics, management, law, art and education.
The university also carries out international academic exchanges and cooperation with the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, Russia, France, South Korea, Japan and more than 20 other countries and regions, covering more than 80 international high-level universities and scientific research institutions.
