Southwest University

Southwest University, in Chongqing's Beibei district, was established in 1906 and has been listed among national projects 211 and 985.

The university covers 533 hectares and has a building area of 1.65 million square meters. Over 40 percent of the campus area is covered with greenery.

The university has established 53 first-level disciplines covering 12 fields, including philosophy, classics, law, teaching, literature, history and science. It has set up 37 departments and 105 undergraduate programs, including 20 national distinctive majors and 37 municipal distinctive majors.

The university has more than 50,000 students, with over 11,000 doing master's and doctoral degrees, and over 2,000 international students. It employs 3,000 staff members including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and three members of Yangtze River Scholar Program.

It has established industry-university-research cooperation with over 50 large and medium-sized enterprises in China. In recent years, it has formed long-term cooperation relationships with over 140 universities and research institutes from about 40 countries and regions such as the United States, Canada, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Australia and Russia.
