Over the years, Anhui's railway network has been further improved, and a framework of high-speed railway network centering on Hefei has taken shape, resulting in the promotion of Anhui's pivotal role in the country's railway network. Construction of the Zhengzhou-Xuzhou, Hangzhou-Huangshan, Shangqiu-Hefei-Hangzhou, Hefei-Nanchang, and Zhengzhou-Fuyang high-speed railways has started. A number of cargo express trains were successfully operated, including the Yangtze River Delta Cargo Express, the Hefei-Xinjiang-Europe freight train line, the Hefei-Ningbo Sea-rail Combined Transport Train, and the Hefei-Shanghai Inter-city Special Trains.

By the end of 2018, the province's length of railway lines reached 4,198.5 km, including 1,456.4 km of high-speed railway. The total length of railway lines in Anhui is expected to exceed 6,000 km by 2020, with high-speed rail reaching 2,800 km.

Anhui-Jiangxi Railway

Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway

Beijing-Kowloon Railway: from Beijing to Hong Kong’s Kowloon, a main railway line linking North and South China

Nanjing-Xi'an Railway: from Nanjing in Jiangsu province to Xi’an, Shaanxi province, linking Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Hubei and Shaanxi provinces

Hefei-Jiujiang Railway: from Hefei in Anhui province to Jiujiang in Jiangxi province, linking East and Central South China

Fuyang-Huainan Railway: an artery traffic line linking northwest parts of Anhui province

Nanjing-Wuhu Railway: from Nanjing, Jiangsu province, to Wuhu, Anhui province, one of the busiest railway lines in China

Nanjing-Anqing railway: from Nanjing in Jiangsu province, with stops in Anhui's Maanshan, Wuhu, Tongling and Chizhou, and ending in Anqing

Hefei-Fuzhou High-speed Railway: from Hefei in Anhui province to Fuzhou, Fujian province, serving as a trunk line in Anhui, and running through Hefei, Tongling, Wuhu, Xuancheng and Huangshan in Anhui province
