An orienteering event was held in Jilin city, Northeast China’s Jilin province, on July 6. More than 1,000 people participated in the event.

Hosted by the city’s sports administration, the event was themed around low-carbon travel and allowed more people to explore the beauty of Jilin, according to organizers.

Participants started from Beishan People’s Square and passed by a number of the city’s landmarks, including Beishan Park, the Confucius Temple, and Jilin Medical University. Participants can either walk or take a bus to the designated destinations.

Orienteering, a sport that originated in Sweden about a century ago, challenges people to find designated locations using only a map and compass.

The sport gives people an opportunity to work out while cultivating their ability to think independently, find creative solutions to problems, and respond quickly.
