The highway project from Shajing to Wuxu in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has officially started on June 28. It is the first demonstration project on smart transportation vehicle-road coordination, and is planned to be the first highway to support self-driving vehicles in Guangxi.

The Shajing-Wuxu Highway is 25.8 kilometers long and has a design speed of 120 km/h. It will pass through Jiangnan district, the Economic Development Zone, and Fusui county in Nanning. The project also includes one service area, one toll station, one maintenance area, as well as one monitoring and communication sub-center. With a total estimated investment of 5.37 billion yuan ($784.71 million), the project is planned to be completed in three years.

In order to make the highway able to support self-driving vehicles, a 5G base station will be set up every 125 meters and the 5G signal will cover the road along the line segment, providing drivers with a more comfortable driving experience.

After completion, it will greatly alleviate the pressure on Nanning South Railway Station and the airport, as well as help Nanning Wuxu International Airport become an international transportation hub.
