Nanchang University (NCU) is the only university involved in the “211 project” – a national key university and specialty list approved by the State Council in November 1995 in Jiangxi province. Jointly founded by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, NCU is also the best university in the province.
The university originates from a medical college founded in 1921. Over the past years, it has merged several colleges and universities and is considered to have endless potential.
NCU has five campuses – Qianhu, Qingshanhu, Donghu, Poyanghu and Fuzhou, among which Qianhu campus is its main campus. The campus covers an area of 301 hectares with the construction area measuring 1.5 million square meters.
At present, the university offers more than 100 undergraduate programs under 12 categories, as well as postgraduate and doctoral programs. The competitive specialties include chemistry, clinical medicine, agricultural science (food science and engineering), engineering, materials science, and pharmacology and toxicology. In addition, five hospitals are affiliated to the university.
In the main campus, there are 4,392 faculty members and 35,213 undergraduate students, as well as 14,980 postgraduate students and 1,400 overseas students.
In terms of international exchanges, cooperation partnership has been established with about 150 universities and scientific institutions in more than 30 countries and regions. For example, a joint food research laboratory has been set up cooperating with the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; the Russian language center was jointly established with a university in Russia; a cooperative educational project in the field of biomedicine was launched with Queen Mary University in London – the highest level of its kind in China.
