A culture and tourism promotions event for Northeast China's Jilin province was held in Seoul, South Korea on June 24.

Jilin borders Russia and the Korean Peninsula. The Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture in the province is home to a large ethnic Korean population and is China's largest Korean autonomous region.

Wang Luxin, an official at the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, said at the event that China and South Korea had a long history of friendly exchanges. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 27 years ago, the two countries had made great progress in various fields including politics, business and culture.

Last year, South Korean airlines increased flights from Incheon to Yanji in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture.

Yang Andi, director of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that Jilin had established friendly relationships with many places in South Korea such as Gangwon-do and Chungcheongnam-do.

A large number of ethnic Korean people live in Jilin province, who have the same customs as South Korean people, Yang added.

The province is currently expanding the development of its winter and snow tourism, and it warmly welcomed visitors and investors from South Korea, the director said.
