In 2017, Beijing had 1,309 newly established foreign-invested enterprises, with a yearly growth rate of 22 percent over the previous year. The foreign investment actually used totaled $24.33 billion, a year-on-year increase of 86.7 percent, ranking first around the country for the first time and marking the 16 consecutive years of growth.
There were 1,639 newly established foreign-funded enterprises in Beijing in 2018, increasing by 25.2 percent. The actually utilized foreign investment was reduced by 28.9 percent to $17.31 billion.
By the end of 2018, more than 43,000 foreign-invested enterprises from 165 countries and regions had been set up in Beijing, accounting for 4.6 percent of the country's total. The accumulative total of actually utilized foreign investment exceeded $155.1 billion, making up 7 percent of the country's total.
Beijing has seen rapid development in its headquarters economy. By the end of 2018, a total of 4,064 enterprises set up their headquarters in Beijing, of which 53 were companies on the Fortune Global 500 list, topping the world for six consecutive years. There were also 178 regional headquarters set up by worldwide renowned multinational companies.
