Guangxi to launch urban domestic garbage classification

According to a teleconference held by the Guangxi Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will fully start domestic garbage classification of prefecture-level cities this year and will build a garbage sorting system in these cities by 2025.

Guangxi has done an exemplary job in garbage disposal in the past years. By the end of 2018, Guangxi had built 111 sewage treatment facilities in towns with a domestic sewage treatment capacity of 4.24 million tons and an urban sewage treatment rate of over 94 percent. In addition, 488 township sewage treatment plants and 87 garbage treatment facilities have been built in the whole region. In 2018, Guangxi completed a total investment of 15.8 billion yuan in sponge city construction, and the total area reached 152 square kilometers.

In 2019, Guangxi will focus on establishing a leading system and working mechanism for the classification of domestic wastes, creating a four-tier classification system covering cities, districts, streets, and communities. It will establish a classification processing system that matches the distribution of domestic waste, classified collection, and classified transportation.

Guangxi will also accelerate the construction of fast food waste treatment facilities and cope with the treatment of perishable garbage such as household kitchen waste, agricultural and trade market garbage, as well as gardening garbage. It will also put efforts in local laws and regulations, as well as publicity and training.

The meeting also made specific arrangements for the construction of town-level sewage treatment facilities, upgrading of urban sewage treatment, treatment of black and odorous water, construction of sponge cities, renovation of old residential buildings, construction of underground integrated pipelines, as well as optimization of the business environment.
