A training session to develop professionals in Building Information Modeling -- or the BIM industry -- concluded at Inner Mongolia University of Technology, Hohhot, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on June 20.

The training session, organized by the government of Horinger New Area, Inner Mongolia University of Technology, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University and Inner Mongolia Technical College of Construction was aimed at offering personnel support for the construction of a BIM training base.

BIM, as a kind of technology promoted by the central government across the country, has wide applications in the architecture sector.

In 2016, the new built-up area in China reached 4.2 billion square meters. And the built-up area in Hohhot alone reached 8 million sq m.

It is estimated that the market value of the BIM industry in Inner Mongolia has reached 750 million yuan ($109.01 million).

Experts say the BIM industry is still in its infancy across the region and even the country, and faces a shortage of skilled professionals. To promote the development of the industry, Horinger New Area established a training base to cultivate talents for BIM industry in August 2017.

According to reports, Horinger New Area is also the first to establish a pilot for project applications for the BIM industry. It plans to build the first cluster of the BIM industry in China, enabling qualified people to help with Inner Mongolia's growth.
