Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics was established in 1950. It began to offer master’s degrees in 1998 and MBA degrees in 2001. In 2009, the university became the only one in Xinjiang to offer an EMBA degree.
The campus covers 630,500 square meters, and a building area of 349,019 sq m, including 146,128 sq m of teaching administrative rooms and 118,966 sq m of student dormitories.
The school library houses 1,963,600 books, 1,183,600 papers, 780,000 foreign language e-books and 31 databases.
There are 16 colleges at the school, including MBA colleges, international education colleges and continuing education colleges. It has research institutes such as the Central Asian Economic and Trade Research Institute, the Regional Economic Research Institute and the Financial Research Institute, and two research centers – the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan Research Center and the Central Asian Research Center, and the China (Xinjiang) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Center.
The university is one of the National Chinese Proficiency Test (MHK) Xinjiang test sites and the British IELTS Test Xinjiang test site. Throughout the years, it has established counterpart support relationships with Renmin University of China, the Central University of Finance and Economics, and Xi'an Jiaotong University.
Cooperative relationships have also been formed with 43 foreign universities such as Wisconsin Concord University, South Korea's Songsong University, and Russia’s Novosibirsk University of Economics and Management. A Confucius Institute was constructed by the university in cooperation with the Jubanov National University in Aktobe, Kazakhstan.
At present, the university consists of 20 schools and departments, with 32 disciplines for undergraduates, five disciplines for first-level master’s programs, 27 disciplines for second-level master’s programs and nine disciplines for professional master’s programs, among which four are national major projects, two are national quality courses and six are provincial key disciplines.
