Marine production in Guangxi exceeds 150b yuan

According to the 2018 Guangxi Marine Economic Statistics Bulletin released by the Oceanic Administration of Guangxi, the total marine production value of Guangxi in 2018 was 150.2 billion yuan ($21.69 billion), up 9.1 percent year-on-year.

This is the first time that Guangxi's marine production value has exceeded 150 billion yuan and that its growth has surpassed the national annual growth rate of 2.4 percent.

The Bulletin shows that the overall marine industry in Guangxi maintained steady growth in 2018. The added value of the major marine industries was 80 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9 percent over the previous year. Among them, the education management service industry has developed rapidly, with an added value of 16.8 billion yuan, an increase of 17.5 percent over the previous year.

The total marine production value of the whole region accounted for 7.4 percent of Guangxi's GDP, accounting for 20.8 percent of the GDP of the four cities (Nanning, Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangchenggang) in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, and 46.9 percent of total production value of the three coastal cities (Beihai, Qinzhou, Fangchenggang).

In recent years, the Guangxi Ocean Department has implemented high-quality development requirements, focused on the task of building a good sea economy, and planned the development of the marine economy scientifically.

In the first quarter of this year, Guangxi's marine production value was 37.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent. Marine tourism has become a highlight of the development of the marine industry. The number of inbound tourists in coastal cities has reached 56,200, an increase of 18.1 percent over the same period of last year, and the number of domestic tourists was 4.51 million, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent.
