According to local media reports, a dictionary of Chinese, Mongolian, English, and Japanese will be completed in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region in 2020.

Sponsored by the general office of the Inner Mongolia government, the Chinese-Mongolian-English-Japanese dictionary is technically supported by a professional team from Inner Mongolia University. The quadrilingual dictionary includes terms related to social sciences, natural sciences, military affairs, official documents, and medicine.

To compile the dictionary, teams use common Chinese entries and existing Chinese-Mongolian dictionaries as a foundation, study Mongolian applications and translation practices, and collect and sort new words and entries, as well as different translations of a single entry.

Afterwards, professional teams used computer networks and cloud storage technology to establish a basic vocabulary database for Chinese, Mongolian, English, and Japanese for inter-translation purposes. An open multilingual translation platform, online electronic dictionary, and paper dictionary will eventually be created.

The compiling team has already built a 500,000-entry Chinese-Mongolian dictionary database and a network platform for collecting and publishing service functions. It has also completed English and Japanese translations for terms related to social sciences, natural sciences, military affairs, and official documents.

The dictionary can be used for translations of official documents or for the media and public service industries. Electronic and paper versions are expected to be released by the end of 2020.
