St. Sophia Church, the largest Orthodox Church in the Far East, is located on Central Avenue in Harbin. Built in March 1907, the church is 53.25-meters high and has a total construction area of 721 square meters. It can accommodate up to 2,000 people. In November 1996, the State Council listed it in the fourth batch of Key National Heritage Conservation Units. The church has become a city landmark.
Central Avenue in Harbin has been the city's most prosperous commercial hub for over 100 years. It is 1,400-meters long and 11-meters wide, running from north to south. The avenue has nearly 200 shops and restaurants, forming a mature commercial service center. Built in 1898, the avenue has also been dubbed a "gallery of European architecture" and is lined with 71 buildings featuring western architectural styles dating back to the Renaissance period. Walking along Central Avenue, one seems to have entered a different land, with a street that pays homage to many different cultures and styles.
Harbin Ice and Snow World is an ice and snow art project running from the end of December to early March each year in Harbin and is the main host site of the annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival. It was initiated in 1999 by the Harbin government to welcome the new millennium. Harbin Ice and Snow World has the top ice and snow sights and entertainment, the most beautiful scenery and the best activities. Every year, Harbin Ice and Snow World has a different theme, with ice buildings illuminated with colorful lights to welcome tourists from around the world.
Mohe, a county in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, is home to the famous Beiji Village, known as China's "Arctic Village", which is the northernmost village in China. A well-known winter destination, it is now striving to promote itself as a summer destination for visitors. Beiji village sits a river away from Russia and is an ideal place to witness the amazing aurora borealis, or northern lights, in summer. Visitors can experience polar days and nights, with the shortest periods of darkness in Beiji village lasting only a few hours during the summer.
With a total planned area of 1,726 square kilometers, Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is an important tourist destination in Northeast China. Its unique geological structure has generated diverse landscapes. The forest stretches across 12 craters, which emerged after volcanoes erupted in the past, that shine like jewels against the backdrop of placid lakes. The most typical trees here are Korean pine forest, Korean pine broad-leaved mixed forest and broadleaved deciduous forest, with more than 50 kinds of wild animals living in the area.
The Wudalianchi Scenic Area, located in Heihe, Heilongjiang province, sits in the extension zone from the Lesser Khingan Mountains to Songnen Plain, covering an area of 1,060 sq km. Millions of years ago volcanic eruptions and lava blocked the ancient channel, forming five barrier lakes connecting the volcanoes, hence the name. Scientists have likened this place to a "museum of natural volcanoes". The spring water here has a high mineral content of excellent quality, which has earned it a reputation for possessing favorable medical properties.
