Chongqing-based Chang'an Auto is one of the biggest car makers in China. The group boasts a history of 157 years, with 34 years of experience in automobile making. By March 2018, the number of Changan-branded vehicle users exceeded 16 million.

In 2014, the total production and sales of Changan-branded vehicles exceeded 10 million. By April 2018, the group has established 51 bases and plants globally.

Chang'an employs more than 11,000 R&D elites from 16 countries, including 500 senior experts. It has built R&D facilities in Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing, Turin, Yokohama, Nottingham, Detroit, and Silicon Valley.

In the field of new energy vehicles, Chang'an has carried out its Project Shangri-la. The group is set to forge three dedicated platforms for new energy vehicles by 2020, as well as end sale of traditional fuel vehicles and realize automobile electrification by 2025.

The group has also obtained more than 100 technologies in smart connectivity, smart interaction, and smart driving. In April 2016, a Changan RAETON autonomous vehicle travelled 2,000 kilometers from Chongqing to Beijing. This was the first long-distance autonomous driving test successfully completed in China.

Chang'an actively seeks partnerships with foreign car makers and has built several joint ventures, including Changan Suzuki (1993), Changan Ford (2001), Changan Mazda (2005), and Changan PSA (2010).
