Weihai No 2 High School, formerly Qidong Middle School, was founded in 1926 and got its current name in 1954. The school set up its senior high school department in 1969 and became solely a senior high school after its junior high school section was separated in 1994. In 2004, the school was merged with Weihai No 3 High School and was divided into two campuses.
The south campus, covering 135.24 mu (9.02 hectares), is adjacent to the coach and railway stations in the city, and boasts convenient transport links. The north campus, with an area of 54.8 mu, is located near to the mountains and the sea, and has a beautiful and quiet environment.
In addition to its main offerings, the school arranges various practical activities, such as in the arts and physical education. Aerobics has become one of the school's main highlights, and it was been given the title "Shandong Provincial Traditional Sports School (Sports Aerobics)" by Shandong Provincial Sports Bureau and the provincial Education Department in 2011.
In recent years, the school has strengthened its ties and exchanges with foreign schools. In 2012, it signed agreements with Vernon Township School District in British Columbia, Canada to partner in school management, providing more opportunities for its students to study abroad.
