Intl, Chinese experts explore urban mining and waste management in SND

The International Symposium on Urban Mining and Waste Management was held in Suzhou New District, Jiangsu province on May 20.

More than 200 international and Chinese experts in the field attended the symposium to explore policies, cutting-edge technologies and advanced innovative ideas on waste management.

They focused on the hot issues and latest problems emerged in the fields of waste management and urban mining at home and abroad and analyzed their development trends.

Thematic forums were also organized during the symposium to discuss major national research and development projects, including the innocuous disposal of garbage and waste, control technologies and equipment to deal with secondary pollution, and intensive categorization and disposal of household garbage in Shenzhen.

The symposium in Suzhou was sponsored by the International Waste Working Group (IWWG) and organized by Tsinghua University in China and the University of Padova in Italy.

Founded by IWWG in 2012, the biennial symposium is the only large scale international convention in the world involving in urban mining.

In order to strengthen academic discussion on China's solid waste and promote exchanges between the East and the West in the field, the international symposium has been held in Italy and China alternatively since 2018.
