The predecessor of Xiantao High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the Xiantao Economic Development Zone, was established in 1991. It was upgraded to a national-level high-tech zone under the approval of the State Council in September 2015.
Located to the west of Wuhan city cluster, the zone is blessed with superior transportation conditions. It is situated along the navigable waterways of Hanshui and Yangtze rivers. The Beijing-Zhuhai, Shanghai-Chongqing and Suizhou-Yueyang expressways, as well as the 318 National Highway run through the entire territory of the zone. It takes about an hour’s drive to the Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, Hankou Railway Station and Wuhan Port along the Yangtze River.
The zone has taken full advantage of the science and educational resources of Wuhan to integrate itself into Wuhan and conduct closer industry-university-research cooperation and has achieved fruitful results. Its pillar industries include new materials, biology, new energy and environmental protection, and electronic information.
