Chinese pond herons usually fly to Harbin from the warmer southern areas of China in mid-April. They like resting and feeding in shallow water, and are often spotted in the wetland areas near the Harbin Grand Theater.

Chinese penduline tits usually return to Harbin in late April or early May. The nest of the Chinese penduline tit is strikingly ornate. It looks like a woven gourd hanging upside down on a branch. Chicks generally hatch in the middle of June.
