Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was jointly established by the Shandong Provincial Government and the National Administration of TCM in 1958.
The main campus of the university was moved to Changqing, the hometown of Bian Que (407-310 BC), a famous physician in the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). The university has two campuses in the Changqing and Lixia districts of Jinan city, and one TCM academy of sciences in Qingdao, with a total combined floor area of 539,000 square meters.
By March 2019, the university had 28 majors for bachelor degrees, covering medicine, science and engineering, liberal arts, management, law, and education. Also, it hosts three doctoral degree programs for first-rank disciplines, 15 doctoral degree programs for second-rank disciplines, nine master's degree programs for first-rank disciplines, and 46 master's degree programs for second-rank disciplines.
To cultivate high-quality talents, the university offers 17 teaching institutions, five scientific research institutions, three directly affiliated hospitals, 17 indirectly affiliated hospitals, 24 teaching hospitals, 10 provincial-level training bases for graduates, 18 standardized training bases for resident doctors of the National Administration of TCM, one national experimental teaching demonstration center, and one State-level off-campus practice education base for college students.
By giving full play to its advantages from being located in the hometown of Bian Que and Confucius, a famous politician and thinker of the Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771 BC), the university has been creating its unique cultural characters themed on TCM and Confucian cultures. It founded the country's first TCM culture collaborative innovation center at provincial level, and set up the internationally cooperative project of building a Sino-Polish TCM center.
To date, the university has established long-term friendly and cooperative relations with more than 40 renowned colleges, universities and medical institutions around the world.
