Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Hongwan) on May 9 became the first in the city to adopt Intelligent Gate System, which cut clearance time for container trucks from 80 to 15 seconds utilizing cellphones, mobile networks, and QR codes.
An unmanned container terminal e-Gate system integrating all information of upstream and downstream port logistics enterprises was established first. It shares and connects customs data with the support of customs, immigration inspection and maritime authorities, according to Ou Huisheng, president of Zhuhai Port Holdings Group.
Declarants can make reservations on an online system independently developed by Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Hongwan) by scanning a QR code. Self-services are used to produce cards to pass gates, handle customs declaration, and enter the gate. The system assigns inspectors automatically. The new process significantly increases clearance efficiency and lowers labor costs.
Traditional electronic gates require personnel to print declaration forms and assign inspectors before vehicles may enter a gate. This often results in jams, especially during busy periods.
