Weifang No 1 Middle School was founded in 1913 and got its current name in 1952. In 2005, the school moved to Weifang National Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, where it covers a combined floor area of 220,000 square meters. It is now a boarding senior high school.
The school set up its international department in 2009. By reaching cooperation in school management with British Columbia (BC), Canada's westernmost province, the school provides more opportunities for its students to study abroad. It was one of the first schools in Shandong province to set up joint programs under the approval of the provincial education department.
Students who attend Sino-Canadian classes will register in Shandong and BC provinces at the same time. After graduation, they can receive high school graduate certificates from both sides. They can then apply for places at renowned universities in countries and regions, such as Canada, the United States, England, Japan and Hong Kong.
As well, classes aimed at studying in the US were also set up at the school in 2017.
Extracurricular English communication and cross-cultural activities are carried out to cultivate students' English listening and speaking abilities, as well as lay the groundwork for them to study aboard.
