Zhuhai clinches deals worth $982m in Canton Fair

The Zhuhai delegation reaped in $982 million during the 125th China Import and Export Fair that concluded in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, on May 5.

The trade value with countries along the Belt & Road rose 7.6 percent from the previous session to $387 million.

The China Import and Export Fair, also known as The Canton Fair, is a comprehensive international event with the longest history, largest size, most extensive exhibit variety, and largest buyer attendance in China.

This year, 181 Zhuhai enterprises, 137 of which were private enterprises, exhibited their products. Leading companies like Gree Electric Appliances, Jinpin Electrical, Gotech Intelligent Technology, Eastcompeace Technology, and EASI were among 16 brand enterprises occupying 104 of 580 Zhuhai booths.

Mechanical and electrical products, which are export pillars for Zhuhai, generated $825 million, 84 percent of the city's total export turnover. Furniture, home supplies, toys, and gifts amounted to 7 percent with a trade volume of $59.12 million, while kitchen supplies, ceramics, and glassware accounted for 5 percent, worth $49.3 million.

The most popular export destinations of Zhuhai products were Asia, America, and Europe, recording turnovers of $514 million, $199 million, and $163 million respectively.

Statistics showed that the number of American and European buyers was on the rise, but that most of the orders were small. Foreign trade development still faces many challenges this year. In response, Zhuhai enterprises will intensify their efforts in brand cultivation, product research and development, and sales network expansion, said the head of the Zhuhai delegation.
