Kite festival opens in Huairen county

Crowds of people watched kite-flying performances in Jinshatan natural scenic area in Huairen county, Shanxi province over the May Day holiday between May 1 and 4.

More than 350 kite-flying enthusiasts divided into around 100 teams from 49 countries and 50 regions took part in the four-day 2nd Shanxi International Kite Festival, which consisted of a folk kite invitational tournament and a noctilucent kite exhibition match. Entries were judged according to their flying techniques and the size, shape, and color of their kites.

A folk culture festival featuring Jinju Opera and gong and drum shows coincided with the kite festival, offering visitors a glimpse into the traditions, history, and culture of Huairen county, which has developed into a hot tourist destination with two ski resorts, three wetland parks, and four scenic areas and historical sites.
