Founded in 1984, Shenzhen Bao’an District People's Hospital is a large comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, preventative care, health care and rehabilitation. It is the main medical center and emergency and critical care unit in Bao’an district. In 2011, the hospital was promoted to a 3A-grade hospital.

The hospital covers an area of 63,000 square meters, with a construction area of 144,000 square meters and 1,050 open beds. In 2013, the number of outpatients in the hospital was 2.4 million and the number of discharged patients was nearly 40,000. The hospital has done nearly 20,000 operations and obtained a business income of 800 million yuan ($119.07 million). The hospital has fixed assets of 490 million yuan and more than 300 sets of medical equipment worth over 100,000 yuan.

The hospital has 51 clinical and medical technology departments and 10 social health centers. At present, the clinical nursing and emergency medicine departments of the hospital are provincial key disciplines, and the emergency medicine department is the key clinical discipline of both Guangdong province and Shenzhen city. 

The hospital has more than 1,800 employees, of which 85 percent are professional and technical personnel. The hospital has 20 master's tutors that train 10 graduate students each year, and they receive 200 undergraduate interns from various medical colleges.
