Shenzhen Children's Hospital was founded in 1998. It has become one of the largest comprehensive 3A pediatric hospitals in Guangdong province, with 1,220 authorized beds and 170,000-square meters of floor area. It offers comprehensive health care and medical services for children from newborn babies through to 18- year-olds.
The hospital has set up 22 clinical departments covering all pediatric specialties. The Pediatric General Medicine, Pulmonary & Respiratory Medicine, and Rheumatology & Immunology departments have been approved as Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Specialties. It also has seven Shenzhen Municipal Key Clinical Specialties, including Hematology & Oncology, Immunology, Pulmonary & Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, Neonatology, PICU and Pediatric Surgery. The laboratory of molecular diagnosis for critical illnesses and the laboratory of high-throughput genome sequencing of pathogens are certified as the Key Clinical Laboratories of Shenzhen city.
Currently, there are 2,022 faculties serving in the hospital, 350 of which have high-level professional titles. In 2017, emergency visits and outpatient visits reached 2.19 million. Inpatient visits exceeded 66,273 and surgical procedures totaled over 25,952.
The hospital is the clinical teaching base affiliated to Chongqing Medical University, Shantou University, Zunyi Medical University and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. An education system has been built that includes resident training systems, a PhD program and a master's program system. So far, 153 students have graduated from the hospital with PhD or master's degrees. In addition, the hospital organizes more than 50 continuing medical education programs each year.
Over the years, the hospital has received a total research fund of 52 million yuan and undertaken over 380 various research projects supported by the National Natural Science Fund, the Guangdong Province Natural Science Fund and more.
In addition, the hospital has also established academic relationships with dozens of institutions in North America and Europe. Institutions it collaborates closely with include the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, the AHA and the American Intensive Care Association in the US.
