Chaozhou Central Hospital was founded in 1922, and was officially recognized as a 3A-grade general hospital by the Guangdong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission in 2016. It is now a technical guidance center and an important base for medical emergencies, teaching and research, and preventive health care in Chaozhou.

There are 1,275 professional and technical personnel in the hospital, with 59 senior titles, 201 secondary senior titles and 385 intermediate titles. The hospital has a total of 940 open beds. The annual number of medical treatments and hospital discharges was 629,820 and 39,876, respectively, and the hospital’s annual operations reached 10,740. 

The hospital is a teaching hospital and clinical practice base for medical colleges such as Shantou University Medical College, Zhongshan University and Chaozhou Nursing School. In 2005, the hospital became a master's degree training center for Shantou University Medical College, and currently has two master-level tutors. On September 15, 2010, it was officially listed as Affiliated Chaozhou Central Hospital of the Southern Medical University.

Since 2005, the hospital has trained a total of 10 graduate students and jointly trained two doctoral students with the Southern Medical University and Jilin University. More than 10 papers have been published by graduate students, including more than 10 articles in SCI. Meanwhile, the hospital has applied for three national invention patents, of which one was authorized.
