Dongguan People's Hospital was founded in 1888 and was one of the earliest Western hospitals in China. It is now a large comprehensive 3A-grade hospital providing medical, teaching, scientific research and preventive healthcare. 

The hospital has three branches, three outpatient departments, 42 clinical departments and 13 medical technology departments. The annual emergency volume is nearly 3 million person-times, the annual hospitalization is more than 93,700 person-times, and it does more than 584,000 annual inpatient operations. The hospital has 4,101 employees and 2,439 beds.

The Wanjiang branch of the Dongguan People’s Hospital was officially opened May 12, 2011. It covers about 290,000 square meters and the construction area is about 180,000 sq m. It includes an outpatient medical technology building, an inpatient building, a comprehensive building, physical examination center and an administration building. It is a modern green medical base integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation.

The Puji branch in Dongcheng district also provides patients with all-round services such as outpatient, examination, hospitalization, surgery and rehabilitation. The Honglou branch is on the old site of the hospital and still runs some departments.

The hospital undertakes the clinical teaching and internship tasks of more than 10 colleges and universities, such as Sun Yat-Sen University, Southern Medical University, and Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It also undertakes professional training of hospital technicians from around the country. 

In the past five years, the hospital has undertaken 220 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects and won 25 scientific and technological progress awards at or above municipal level. The hospital has also carried out various academic activities and popular science lectures.
