Established in 1989, the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College is a large public comprehensive 3A-grade hospital, the highest of China's three-tier grading system for public hospitals.
The hospital occupies 4.2 hectares, with a construction area of nearly 110,000 square meters. It has 1,816 beds and 2,674 employees. The hospital has set up 59 clinical departments, 11 medical technology departments, 14 teaching and research rooms and six laboratories. It has the largest resort home in the country, and many standardized operating rooms and intensive care units.
The first-level discipline of clinical medicine is the key discipline in Guangdong province. It has 20 provincial second-level and third-level key disciplines, clinical key specialties and key laboratories.
In 2017, the hospital set up the first international medical department in east Guangdong province, dedicated to providing high-quality and efficient medical services for foreigners. It has outpatient and inpatient departments.
The international medical department has two independent clinics, a comfortable waiting area in the outpatient department, and six wards in the inpatient department, of which two are suites. All wards are equipped with central oxygen supply, vacuum system, air conditioning, refrigerators, televisions, wireless internet and separate toilets.
The international medical department has a team of experts with overseas education background and rich medical experience. It provides a 24-hour telephone reservation service and special services such as individual-based treatment, high quality and professional nursing, priority medical checks, personal health tracking and discharge follow-ups.
