Wuhan International Yangtze River Crossing Festival
The Wuhan International Crossing Yangtze River Festival became a custom in Wuhan dating back to July 16, 1966, when 73-year-old Chairman Mao swam across the Yangtze River. The celebration of this day became an international festival in the following years.
The competition is divided into two parts: individual races and team races. The distance of the individual race is about 1,800 meters from Hanyangmen in Wuchang to Nan’anzui in Hanyang. The distance of the team race is about 6,000 meters from Hanyangmen in Wuchang to Sanyang Square in Hankou. The event has drawn international swimmers from Germany, Sweden, and Russia. Other activities also include rafting and a carnival.
Time: July 16 every year
