To celebrate China Water Week (March 22-28), more than 500 locals participated in a 5-km hike around Xiangzhou District on March 24 to promote public awareness of the importance of saving water.

Participants, young and old, wore special uniforms as they circled the lake in Xiangshan Lake Park. They enjoyed the oxygen-rich air and picturesque landscapes while following a 2,400-m track around the lake. The route ends at Ao'yuan Plaza.

During the event, participants were also educated on water conservation and water resource protection.

According to statistics, about 2.5 percent of the Earth's water is freshwater, of which only 31 percent is accessible for use. Three out of every 10 people around the world have no access to safe water.
